Thanks Cocoon for this chit-chat about The Power of Serious Game using Rory’s Story Cubes, i’m writing down here my opinion explained in the video-interview

1) Presentation of participants. How do you use the Story Cubes ?

I am a Strategic Consultant & Trainer, so I help entrepreneurs to achieve their dreams through tailor-made consultancy sessions. I act as a facilitator of business & learning processes: by cooperating with cutting-edge companies, I develop iterative & incremental approaches, design operational projects and help you to reach your strategic goals.

About the big picture of my business, I’m help to improve professional carrer and corporate career, both. Starting a bidirectional flow wich is going to the customer through business model and vicecersa is going to the employee through organizational model.

In the journey of growth I take care, I’m using Story Cubes in these ways:
– Evolutive Knowledge, during my own formats (one2many short public workshops) I teach outstanding topics, the players carrying out this knowledge on the game. Some custom examples: Funny Meetup @ Macerata Language Exchange | Back To The Future @ Cowo 42 | Back To The Future @ Navitas Coworking | Funny Meetup @ Free English Conversation Group Civitanova Marche
– Evolutive Learning, during my own formats (one2many daily public workshops) my facilitations help to find players own solution and carrying out on their own business.
– Evolutive Journey, during this trainig on the job (one2one consulting sessions) my advices help to find your solution together, living the same journey.

2) What are the goals/results that you reached using the story cubes ?

My cutting-edge lab is like an immersive training on the job – people are playing with Rory’s Story Cubes – cooperating and sharing stories. Solving complex problems is the main outcome, through this playful activity, the players will release the power of their creative mind and will be able to manage happiness out of the Comfort Zone. Each person will touch the new open-minded problem solving approach. Hands and mind will be used to imagine, create and build a story.

3) What about the use of story cubes in team ?

Story Cubes as ice breaker are amazing, as well. The dice enable teams to get to know each other better in a fun and interesting way. During one2many public workshops, the dice allow to overcome the embarrassment telling a personal story to a stranger (never known before). During team consulting sessions, the dice are an excellent starting point to spark conversations on subjects that otherwise may never have been discussed.

4) Have you ever used it in combination with other tools ?

Yes, these products are all part of a toolbox I use to help my customers. Mind Maps, Canvases, Lego bricks or dice are used to help people to understand what they are able to do.

5) How can we mix different methodologies ?

No problem, it depends on the learning abilities of people who use the tool. For instance, the dice are easier than bricks, the symbol on its face is a good starting point for newbies (right brain hemisphere untrained). Instead, with Lego bricks you have to build something from scratch and give it a meanging.

Play The Game

Thanks Felicia @ DNX for this amazing article

Happiness is something we can choose! We only started to understand the power of our thoughts: if we create positive thoughts and feelings, our mind automatically watches out for them more and attracts positive things back. Makes total sense, right? More and more people open themselves to practicing gratitude and meditation as used (and shared) by the world’s greatest achievers, creatives and entrepreneurs. It helps us to be 100% present in the moment, to be happy in the now. That, in turn, reduces fear and anxiety, which are major causes of all our modern day problems.

So here are 7 facts that tell us something extraordinary is happening in the world:

1) The old employment model is dying. Not much of a surprise for YOU, right? But did you believe a few years or even just months ago that the movement of digital nomads, remote companies and alternative work concepts would attract so many people? People can’t stand working for big corporations anymore, dreaming of escaping the cubicle. Besides, there will be less jobs out there, so entrepreneurship becomes the safest option!

2) Collaborative communities are on the rise. Coworking & coliving projects unite a diverse community of local creatives, techies, entrepreneurs, remote employees, changemakers. Everyone has different backgrounds, talents or skills and is happy to trade and share them. Times of pushing elbows are coming to an end. We’re moving towards a world with strongly connected, supportive, global tribes. Concepts of the sharing economy, collaborative communities and togetherness are growing. We’re building communities where ego is the enemy! It’s amazing!

3) The world starts to understand the internet. The invention of the Internet has given us such massive opportunities! It is this amazing tool that has the potential to reconnect us as one human race, to eliminate walls and separation, to grow together as a global community. It is empowering every single one of us. We can now take control of our lives, have access to knowledge and nearly unlimited information. We can CHOOSE and are not dependent on what other people think is good for us. Every single one of us has a voice. We can share our ideas with the world without having to ask for it.

4) Excessive consumption is outdated. The times when we just want to buy, buy, buy are coming to an end. It’s still a long way to go, but you can feel it all around you: people are buying less cars, swapping clothes, going to flea markets and sharing vans, longboards, apartments and workspaces. We’re slowly digging our way out of the manipulative hole to consume and possess as much as we can. We don’t need all the stuff our parents were told we would. Instead, we’re drawn towards the ideas of slow food and the simple life, taking the power away from many big corporations and passing it to small, creative businesses with good values. Yeah!

5) Living consciously: Healthy & organic food. Isn’t it crazy that we treated our own bodies like shit in the past decades? We didn’t question if what’s sold in the supermarkets is good or bad for us. We just accepted that big brands are poisoning us with non-natural, processed junk-food for the bigger profit. Finally this is changing! We started to see the huge connection between clean, healthy, organic food and a happy, successful life. And this will change our whole economy. Again, power is shifting back to the smaller businesses, the farmers, or even ourselves. We’re growing food at home or sharing it in urban gardens.

6) Unschooling is shaking the education system. Many big thinkers, creators and entrepreneurs challenge the education system. Schools are teaching us to lead an ordinary life and be a functioning part of society. But we all carry genius in us – creativity that’s waiting to be unleashed. We can push ourselves towards doing extraordinary things. Luckily, people have started hacking the old education system. Prestigious universities are putting their knowledge online for free. The sheer number of tutorials, webinars and online courses available gives us control of what we want to learn – and we can do it anywhere, anytime and in any stage of life and business.

7) Mindfulness: Spirituality is re-awaking in 2.0 Not too long ago, people would smile at you if you’d practiced meditation or yoga. It was meant for weird hippie folks, not for the modern person. Now look around you – “mindfulness” has become a huge trend and is helping lots of stressed people to feel happier, healthier and more aligned with the world around them. We focus so much on our bodies, training them, getting them into shape. Well, you know, we can train our minds and shape our reality, too!

We’re headed down a good path. Let’s take this further and really make this world a fucking awesome place!

Free As Freelance: right ?

You get to use what you’ve been building all these years: your education, skills, experience, all the years you’ve put in the corporate career. In many cases, there is no need to get new professional skills, just to learn how to leverage them in a new environment. What needs to change is your mindset — you won’t be passively waiting for the tasks any more — you will be making your own way.

Unlike corporate environment, the world of freelancing supports location independence, and choosing your own working hours schedule. But the freedom doesn’t stop here: for many people the difference between choosing your next project over being allocated to one by company’s management is the main motivation for freelancing.

Long term commitment is not necessary. Investing your money in a business idea can lead to a huge success and a source of the passive income eventually, and yeah — passive income beats working part time with your own schedule. However, once you invest the money, you’ll gonna wish to make sure it’s coming back. Therefore the first phase will require working around the clock and definitely not making gaps or taking up another project when you feel like it. This is the crucial question you need to ask yourself: how soon you want your freedom ?

It is easier than ever to become a digital nomad – a person who has no fixed address, rarely spends more than a few months in one country and keeps up with their work on their computer from co-working spaces, coffee shops or hotel rooms around the world. Apparently this type of lifestyle is getting more and more popular among online professionals.

From a superficial perspective, it might seem that digital nomads are terrible employees. They are constantly on the go and are rarely reachable on demand. However, based on my experience, I’d argue that the exact opposite is true. First off, people are much happier living where they want, because it allows them to do what they want to do. If somebody likes surfing, they can move to a surf town in Bali; if somebody likes diving, they can move to the Philippines or other places full of great dive spots; if somebody likes hiking, they relocate close to the mountains.

Richard Branson, a man who knows a thing or two about hiring, said: “The way you treat your employees is the way they will treat your customers”. The happier your employees are, the more they will love they work, the more innovative ideas they will come up with and the better they will treat your users/customers, which leads to more sales and eventually to more profit. Digital nomads usually don’t have fixed work hours, which makes them acquire a results-oriented mindset. The main question founders have to ask themselves when they are hiring a new person is – can this person deliver results? After all, does it really matter how much time one spends working or whether they work from an office as long as they deliver ?

Ask yourself a question. If you didn’t have to go to work today, get dressed in that uncomfortable office attire, fight the traffic or go through a hectic same day-to-day commute, to sit at your desk while you complete that stressful project. If that wasn’t a key requirement of making a living and putting food on the table, would you still do it? Many start-up entrepreneurs escape that environment by starting a new business. But apart from losing the suit for a t-shirt and swapping the cubicle for the bedroom or parent’s garage, the rest is pretty much the same old. So how about adding location independence in the mix? Enter Digital Nomads – a growing cross-section of the working population who have leveraged the internet and technology to allow themselves to work or start-up almost anywhere in the world. It’s the proverbial university gap year, but it never ends. It’s the “I’m going travelling” mentality, but instead of working in bars or doing odd jobs to fund the next plane ticket, they take their careers with them in their carry-on. While some digital nomads themselves cringe at the term, it is used to reference a relatively new type of worker/entrepreneur who does their job on the go. Arising mainly out of the tech and web-based industries, it is a philosophy of adventure and self autonomy. They choose the environments they wish to work in, make their own schedules, and spend as much time as possible taking in new cultures and experiences. They pick lower cost locations to bootstrap their business and then move or go back to the big tech hubs when investments and mor r advantage and the benefits are astonishing.

Digital nomads need to change their never-ending vacation scenery from time to time. We need to feel the creative buzz of the other entrepreneurs. To smell the atmosphere of getting things done. To hold each other accountable. People living the conventional lifestyle need to come back from a trip feeling that there is a take away from the whole adventure. That the journey doesn’t end after the farewell party. They need to leave with new skills, views and routines. They need to stay within the community that will keep their batteries plugged in. They need to know they’ve learned about the possibilities to make their lifestyle more flexible. It’s true that digital nomadism is not for everybody. But on the scale from being totally confined to being absolutely on the loose, there is a sweet spot for everybody.Get out of your bubble, hear us out, see how we’re doing it, and find your sweet spot. I’m confident that in everybody’s work and life there is a room for getting it more flexible. Let’s continue making changes even after the farewell party. Don’t let your trip fade away. Stay on the journey.

I wanted to teach myself things i would never learn in textbooks. I wanted to teach myself things I would never learn in the suburbs. To explore freedom, to live with nature and to understand that hopes and dreams can come true. I am so grateful for my ability to dream up such adventures. I am grateful for my inner compass for guiding me and keeping me safe. I am thankful in my heart and mind, for my courage I have acquired strength from unimaginable challenges.

Powerful lessons I have learned abroad:

Strength. And Trusting Yourself. Like the cliché, “Life begins at the end of our comfort zone”, I’m so much stronger than i know. Only when this is experienced in such raw form do i clearly understand the strength i possess to make correct decisions, keep myself safe, overcome fear, and just do it. I have learned that I am incredibly strong. And only in that strength have I been able to experience and recognize these invaluable life lessons.

Gratitude, not expectation. Before, I tried hard to not have expectations. But now I see that I still did. I expected special treatment, expected air-conditioning, expected people to understand me, and expected road construction for the one tiny pothole on my street. Now, I don’t have expectations. I have seen what I have and what others don’t. I have gone without because I didn’t have the option, and I have been the outsider, thrown into a pen of discomfort—I cannot expect a thing, not speaking the language, knowing the environment, or having anyone to rely on but myself to figure it all out. This has fueled gratitude. When I am comfortable, when I am clearly understood, I want to fall to my knees in thanks and smile at the universe—so thankful for that moment of clarity to receive, rather than ever expecting it in the first place.

Simplicity. Living in simplicity is a mental and physical purging agent of self-control. When we don’t have access to something, we don’t have access. Plain and simple. And yet somehow life is still okay. When we make the conscious choice for simplicity, we are giving ourselves a gift and taking control of our lives rather than letting them continue to run away on the train of materialism. We are saying, “That’s enough. I want to be in charge.” And when we do, it takes about five seconds to realize that it is all trappings anyway. And when we have none of it, and nothing to do, but to sit and think, reflect, and just be, we become comfortable with ourselves in the silence and simplicity, in a way we never knew. Simplicity changes lives.

Patience. And how to take a backseat from control, and follow the flow. We must leave our control mechanisms at the door because it gets us nowhere. Relinquish control and tight grips on life and learn to throw it to the wind and be okay with that. Instead of getting frustrated when things are different or do not go as planned, it is necessary to sit back and let the world flow. This is a lesson for life, too. We are caught up in a world of structure and order and finite decision making and judgment. It’s crippling. Taking a deep breath and listening to our heart and inner compass, handing the reigns over and not shaking from discomfort in doing so—learning to let go and let be, is an amazing awareness.

Friendships are the new family. Life abroad offers the opportunity to meet and engage with people from all over the world. Friends become your family. When your new friend from France or New Zealand, is there to have a beer and share experiences, they become family. When no one else understands what you are going through, they do, because they are in the same place right now, on the same quest, miles from home, and piecing together their own adventures. With the same challenges and happinesses and lifestyle and paradise and self-discoveries. Understanding things that no one else will ever believe are even true, and grappling with the same issues of life abroad.

Self-acceptance. We all make mistakes, and they are judged. Which causes us to be hard on ourselves and expect to operate in a place of perfection with no room for error. But mistakes are natural and are all moments of self-teaching. If it weren’t for mistakes, we wouldn’t be half the people we are today. We are all on our own paths. Writing our own stories, not someone else’s. Not being who we think we should be, but being who we are.I have learned that it’s okay to be me, and that the things that make me who I am are all there for a reason. As long as we recognize and create our own paths with confidence. Owning up to our own lives, taking responsibility for failures and successes, and accepting that what makes us who we are, and being really happy with that person.

Be you. Be strong. Be brave. And be easy on yourself.

If you want to push your comfort zone’s boundaries but you’re not sure where to start, there’s actually a tool online to measure your comfort zone. A short questionnaire about your comfort levels in professional, lifestyle and adrenaline-related events gives you a score and an idea about how big or small your comfort zone is. It also includes some reading and activity suggestions for increasing your comfort levels in each area.

How far you want to push your boundaries is totally up to you, and will probably differ depending on what else is going on in your life. The trick seems to be maintaining a healthy balance between security and comfort, and a little novelty and excitement now and then.
